This story picks up almost right where the first episode left off. Mercy is reeling from another encounter with her stalker, the man who date raped her months previously, as well as coming to terms with Camden's revelations about his abilities.

One thing that I really enjoy about these stories is the relationship development. Mercy's best friend Gemma is a nice touch and their friendship beautiful. Mercy and Camden are cute together, but it's not over the top. They've only known each other a very short time and I'm happy with how the relationship between them is developing.

In this installment we get more inside Camden's head with frequent perspective switches between him and Mercy. This is a technique that can be overused at times, but generally improves this kind of story and I really like how it's done here. We also get a glimpse inside Jeff's head, which is just as dark and creepy as it seems.

There are a couple of reasons this installment isn't getting a 5/5 from me. First, Mercy, while a likable character was somewhat annoying here. She tries to put off what happened to her (and things that are continuing to happen to her), not considering what this might mean for other people. I just find that off putting about her. And secondly, I didn't feel like the story really progressed much here. There was some development with the characters and them getting to know each other better, but I didn't feel like the main storyline really went anywhere.

All of that said, this was a fast and fun read. I will definitely be sticking with the series to see how things play out for Mercy and her friends.

About the Author
Erik Hollnagel (Ph.D., psychology) is Professor and Industrial Safety Chair at �‰cole des Mines de Paris (France), Professor Emeritus at University of Linköping (Sweden), and Visiting Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim (Norway). He has since 1971 worked at universities, research centres, and industries in several countries and with problems from several domains, including nuclear power generation, aerospace and aviation, air traffic management, software engineering, healthcare, and land-based traffic. His professional interests include industrial safety, resilience engineering, accident investigation, cognitive systems engineering and cognitive ergonomics. He has published more than 250 papers and authored or edited 17 books, some of the most recent titles being The ETTO Principle (Ashgate, 2009), Resilience Engineering Perspectives: Preparation and Restoration (Ashgate, 2009), Resilience Engineering Perspectives: Remaining Sensitive to the Possibility of Failure (Ashgate, 2008), Resilience Engineering: Concepts and Precepts (Ashgate, 2006), and Barriers and Accident Prevention (Ashgate, 2004). Erik Hollnagel is Editor-in-chief of Ashgate Studies in Resilience Engineering and, together with Pietro C. Cacciabue, Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cognition, Technology & Work. Jean Pari�s graduated from the French National School of Civil Aviation as an engineer, then joined the DGAC for several positions dealing with air safety regulations. An artist's imagination run wild!!!!

I haven't gotten myself to be able to read comics online yet so this hardcover collection of Tom Scioli's web series AMERICAN BARBARIAN was greatly anticipated! I loved it! Scioli's imagination is completely let loose and on display! AMERICAN BARBARIAN is a story of revenge featuring a warrior in a post-post-apocalyptic future (I love that description). How can you not love a comic with a villain named Two Tank Omen?

I really enjoyed the format and feel of the book (slightly smaller than a typical modern comicbook). If you're already familiar with Scioli's work, this is can't miss. If you're not familiar, get acquainted!

Tom Scioli is one of the best artists in comics because he understands that the visuals are the means of delivering a narrative and not an end unto themselves. His art is quite good and evokes an earlier time when comic books knew the difference between seriousness and grimness. His concepts are fresh and delivered with an obvious enthusiasm of an artist fully engaged in his work.
