About the Author

Jack D. Edinger, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO. Dr. Edinger is one of the world leaders in insomnia treatment and insomnia research. He is recognized internationally for his research and clinical leadership in the areas of insomnia diagnosis and treatment. His early case series studies are among the very first to document the effectiveness of current-day cognitive behavioral insomnia therapy approaches. He has over 32 years of research and clinical experience working with insomnia patients.

Colleen E. Carney, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Sleep and Depression Laboratory at Ryerson University in Toronto. Dr. Carney is a world renowned expert in comorbid insomnias and the treatment of insomnia with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). In the Sleep and Depression Laboratory she trains graduate students and treatment providers in CBT for insomnia. She also provides CBT training workshops worldwide. She uses the treatment described in this book in her randomized controlled trials, funded by such agencies as the National Institute of Mental Health, Canadian Institutes for Health Research and the National Institute for Nursing Research. Dr. Carney is passionate about improving access to empirically supported insomnia therapy to patients.

Chose this product with recommendation from sleep psychologist. I found this a good book but also felt I have learned most of the tips in the book. Excellent Informative Read

In regards to content, this is a great overview of the current state of technologies and issues in cancer genomics. Highly informative and well laid out, the key concepts allow for easy navigation for students to gain information. I especially like the mast heads which have fascinating attention to detail which add to the interesting read.

Although I agree with the first review that there is a need to be careful with the binding being tight as it is slightly delicate, this should not deflect attention away from it being an excellent resource. I would recommend this to anyone interested or studying the area of cancer genomics.

Overzealous with the knife

I like this book. In fact I've purchased 2 copies both shipped in separate orders. Unfortunately, both copies have the same defect. If you open the front cover the pages have all been cut away from the spine but only in front. Very strange. Not sure if I will keep it or use some strapping tape to tape the collection of pages back to the front of the book. the content is very good.

This was an excellent book - it covered all the basics of real discipleship in an encouraging, faithful way.

Hail, Hail The Gang's All Here

When I pick up the fourth volume of a trilogy, (this series supposedly wrapped up with the third volume in 2010), I think of a performer waiting nervously in the wings after his act is done, waiting to see if the audience's applause is enthusiastic enough to justify an encore. With this series the audience was very enthusiastic and there was much disappointment that the Magic Thief trilogy had concluded. Well, Book 4 has finally been launched, and it was worth the wait.

Everyone is back and we pick up right where we left off. Conn and Nevery and Benet and Rowan and Embre and Captain Kerrn, and that bad baby dragon, Pip, are all here, and the book takes off in a rush. By the end of Book 3 Conn had brought a new younger magic to supplement the older but weakening magic that had always powered Wellmet. As Book 4 opens, the two magics are not working well together, ("...like two dragons, both trying to fit into one dragon's space,..."), and magic is in considerable disarray. Rowan, the ruling Duchess, needs Conn to serve as ducal magister, (head wizard), and get a handle on the problem. Conn resists, and then when a locus magicalicus stone is stolen he is accused and his whole thief history comes back to the fore. Who is really stealing these magical objects, and why?

I had forgotten how much I liked these characters. Rowan is the most competent, vulnerable, resourceful heroine I've encountered since Hermione Granger and her struggle to be a good ruler at a tender age is touching and inspiring. Conn is, as usual, a bit more angsty than I'd like, but once we move beyond that he remains a solid bad-boy hero. Every other character steps up to the plate in a satisfying fashion, so it's all good.

As always Prineas has a good handle on her material, with a nice balance of magic, action, intrigue, Wellmet politics, humor and character development. On reflection, these books are actually pretty "sprawling" for middle grade fantasy adventure, but Prineas keeps everything sharp, clear and energetic, and completely accessible to a younger reader.

So, it took a while, (Prineas has published her "Winterling" books in the meantime), but all's well that ends well. This is a solid entry in the Magic Thief series.

Excellent and Entertaining

In HOME, Conn is back in Wellmet and has a number of problems. He is a very powerful wizard but, being only about twelve years old and not very tolerant of what he sees as stupidity, most of the other wizards really, really dislike him.

His best friend Rowan is, at sixteen, the new Duchess of Wellmet and his cousin Embre is the Underlord who runs the Twilight part of the city. Rowan wants to "reward" Conn for his efforts to save and protect Wellmet by making him the Ducal Magister. Conn doesn't want the job and especially doesn't want to live in the Dawn Palace and be watched over.

Additionally, someone is stealing the locus stones of the other magisters and most believe that Conn is the one responsible. Conn knows that he didn't do it and sets the problem aside to deal with the problem he believes is more important. The two magics that now inhabit Wellmet aren't working together and it is throwing off all the spells cast by any magicians. If Conn can't get the magics to work together, they could destroy the city.

And, just because things can never be easy for Conn, an old enemy has returned who wants to defeat both the Duchess and the Underlord and take over the city himself. He doesn't realize that his plans could cause the destruction of the city he wants to rule.

A big part of this story has Conn deciding what he wants to be and do. He doesn't fit back into the gutterboy lifestyle and he certainly doesn't want the Ducal Magister lifestyle. Once he gets a minute without a crisis he is going to have to decide what he does want.

This is an excellent and entertaining addition to the Magic Thief series. Middle graders will love the action, the danger, the friendships, and the dragon. They will also enjoy getting to know Conn. The coded messages (key at the back of the book) will also intrigue readers.

This series is a "must buy" for both my elementary and my middle school media centers. I can't wait to share it with my students.

it's a brilliant book in a fabulous series

This book has gone through four kids (ages 9-14) in my house in one week. I have to say it was little irritating to watch them all laughing, cringing and reading with a hand over the face. :) I was desperate to know which part they were reading, but was reading it next and didn't want any spoilers. I also had to ban any MT talk in the house in case I heard snippets, so they started to huddle outside to discuss it.
As usual, it's a brilliant book in a fabulous series.

AN HONEST REVIEW FROM A MAN WHO BOUGHT THIS BOOK

I AM A MAN who bought this book as a gift for a female friend who does not have an Amazon account. I read the book because the title caught my eye and because I wanted to determine if the author was on target in terms of defining men, etc. Overall, I think it's a good read, funny, and to the point. I didn't agree with everything because I think the book could have shined a better light on men, but I will agree with one statement that stuck out for me on page 129 under the heading MEN LIE ABOUT LOVE. It's true that men sometimes lie about love. If we tell you that we love you and we act otherwise, then we are probably lying. Have I done this in the past? Not me because I have only loved one woman and I told her that. She knows it. But we men (depending on how full of shit we are) will lie to get some pussy. My advice to all women is that if we act contrary to what we say, something is probably up and we have something (perhaps other girls) on our minds. If we are with you and we get lots of texts during our time together, then something might be up. We don't always think with our hearts, which is why men are said to be from Mars and women are from Venus. This is just my little input.

Also, since a lot of women will probably be reading this review I want to tell as many women as possible something important. Please, please, please tell us men what you want. Don't expect us to guess what you want in life and in bed. Tell us what you want. The dilemma for centuries between men and women is that women don't tell us what they want. My girlfriend is the same way and all the women before that. If you want to have sex, then tell us. If you want to go to a certain place, then tell us. If you want us to rock your world, then tell us. As I speak among my male friends their biggest problem with women is that they don't tell us what they want clearly enough and as often enough. If you want to be happy with us, then give us a few hints and tell us exactly what is on your mind. It really frustrates us to keep wondering and guessing.

Ok, well this is my review. I am going to give this book to my friend and hope she gets a bang out of it.

At the top of my list!!

So far I have read a plethora of relationship books and this one is at the top of my list. It's a quick read about 225 pages, all you need is the first four chapters! This book is raw! Kara King tells it like it is. If you are sensitive and have a low self esteem toughen up, get a therapist. She lets you know that lack of confidence in no way will attract a man. If you want to know what attracts and deters men from your path, this is the book for you. For those who have read only a few pages of this book and believe Kara King is a man basher, you didn't read far enough into the book. I highly suggest chapter 6 in which the author tells us ladies that we tend to over look the good guys for shallow reasons. I have to say she's right, both sexes are guilty of choosing a partner with looks over brains.

I do however suggest that you read more than just one book to empower yourself. Broadening your knowledge and communication skills is what will lead you to finding the right man. As of now I have many dates lined up and i'm very much pursued by the opposite sex. I owe it all to developing self confidence and researching. The following books should be read as well: Act Like A Lady Think Like A Man by Steve Harvey, Why Men Love Bitches by Sherry Argov. If you feel you need to work on your communication skills with the opposite sex you must read Men are from Mars Women are from Venus by John Gray. Not only will your communication skills improve you will gain insight as to why men act the way they do. What makes them tick and most of all how to complement a man with positive affirmations, this builds your confidence and his! He's happy your happy, there will be less nagging involved and more peace, I promise! I also feel in todays technologically advanced society females are easily available, when access should be limited to the opposite sex. Learn how to handle yourself via text messaging, e-mailing, and of course social networking sites such as Facebook. A great book that covers these topics would be Not Your Mothers Rules By Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider. And finally if you feel you have been duped, played, etc you need to look for red flags and this advice goes to both men and women. There are people out there who are quite successful at playing others and you need to be capable of detecting such types. They get away with it because their experts and have been for quite some time. I recommend The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene. Not everyone is out to get you but be aware of those who carry these unique personality traits. Detecting BS is half the battle. As knowledgeable as I am now I use my wisdom to the best of my abilities and I do not lead others on. Once you acquire the needed confidence do not forget to treat others the way you would like to be treated. If someone no longer interest you, make sure you state it kindly. Good luck to all of you!

Don't let the title put you of. Concise and utterly accurate, Kara King calls it like she sees it.

Every woman who is dating, from teenager upwards, deserves to know about the 'player' men she writes about. Some players are harmless & easy to pick out that they are just after sex. Others are more insidious & predatory - they seduce, mislead by suggestion, lie outright, deceive, manipulate and use women. Learn the difference between PERSONALITY & CHARACTER. Pay attention to any feeling that things do not add up. Beware the 'perfect' guy and the 'perfect' relationship that unfolds too easily. Beware the guy who plies you with alcohol. Although there is no guarantee you will be told the truth, establish the rules upfront; ask what you are; what this is. Then see if ACTION matches his WORDS. A guy who is genuinely interested in a relationship willing puts in effort to build something healthy eg will listen & try to solve problems, respects you/proud to be with you, your opinion and is open and transparent. A player is unlikely to invest effort in a woman, to him she is just a docking station and if he is seeing other women then a schedule (certain days of the week) or secrecy is likely part of the equation. Run if referred to as a 'special friend', haven't been introduced to his circle or if when confronted with professions/promises made he claims he can't recall/didn't say that/you misunderstood.

Best be prepared... Figure out the game, avoid being used. Read the book and apply the principles; she has nailed down the player mindset 100%! A real gift to women everywhere, if you are single and dating, don't venture out there without reading this book first!!

As an added extra, men "checkout" (emotionally or physically) when their interest wanes - accept that HE IS NEVER GOING TO TELL YOU!! Be brave, don't settle for excuses - work etc, blah, blah. Just move on, you deserve better.

About the Author
Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Cincinnati. She taught her first business writing class as a doctoral student at the University of Illinois in the early 1980s and has been teaching workplace writing ever since. She helped establish the University of Cincinnati’s professional writing program and has served as its coordinator. She has also won the English Department’s teaching award, directed the department’s graduate program, and helped direct the composition program. Dr. Rentz’s affiliation with the Association for Business Communication goes back to her beginnings as a business writing teacher. Dr. Rentz was named the 2008 winner of the Association for Business Communication's (ABC’s) Outstanding Teacher Award. In addition, an article she co-authored in 2007 just won the association’s award for Outstanding Article in the Journal of Business Communication. She has performed many roles for the association, including serving on the board of directors, organizing a conference, and chairing the publications board. She served two terms as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Business Communication and was Interim Editor from 2000–2001, for which she won the Francis W. Weeks Award of Merit. Dr. Rentz has published articles and commentary on pedagogy, genre theory, narrative, and ethics in such journals as Business Communication Quarterly, the Journal of Business Communication, Technical Communication Quarterly, and the Journal of Business and Technical Communication. She has participated in many professional meetings and seminars over the years and is always learning from her colleagues and her students.
